From Danlami Audu, Yola
The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians (CNNC) has cautioned some Christian groups that are allegedly using church name for political gains to henceforth desist from such unreligious activities.
While addressing journalists on Friday in Yola, the National Youth Leader Engr. Daniel David Kadzia, expressed disappoinment over the activities of some pastors whom he accused of abandoning preaching the gospel of God for the good of humanity.
Daniel pointed out that christian brothers and sisters are captivities of these unscrupulous men of God in different parts of the country, wondering why some people who called themselves men of God are bothered with endorsing politicians when time for politicking is still far.
” My group was shocked when we saw in the social media that a purported Christian group called Northeast Christians Youth Network has endorsed former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, for president. We don’t have much problem with that, but what actions has this group took for those in Internally Displaced Persons in camps? What about those kidnapped ? Is their voices shouting for government to rescue them?,” he queried.
Engr. Daniel who cautioned men of God to be watchful and careful of the way they pursue earthly materials, pointed out that the image of the church is being dragged into the mud while begging for leftover loafs of bread from the politicians.
He said it is not wrong for men of God to get involved in politics, but that the altar of God should not be a platform to woo politicians at the detriment of the church.
The national Youth Leader urged Church leaders to caution their members against indulging into activities that affect the image of the church.
He said that his group will continue to work towards promoting peace and gospel of Christ for the good of humanity.
