Youths in Borno have urged the State Government to create a Youth Development Commission to address the issue restiveness and unemployment among youths in the state.
The Chairman of the state chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Mr Tanimu Tahir made the call in his addresd in Maiduguri to mark this year’s United Nations International Youths Day.
Tahir said the commission became necessary as youths always remain the perpetrators and victims of insecurity in the country despite there role in peace building in communities.
Tahir observed that in Borno there was no clear-cut policy that empowers the youths as obtained in other states, particularly Lagos.
He said that the creation of a youth development commission in Borno would go a long way in addressing some of the issues affecting the over 1.5 million youths in the state.
“We are discussing the prospects of youths being a critical voice in policy formulation and directions at the federal and state levels,” Tahir said.
He lauded the European Union (EU) and PLAN International, an NGO for there support to youth programmes in the state and urged others to emulate them.
