The Borno State University (BOSU), Maiduguri, has held its fourth matriculation ceremony for the 2022/2023 academic session.
A statement from the university Information/Public Relation Unit said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umar Kyari Sandabe, assisted by the DVC Admin, Prof. Fanna Inna Abdurrahman, DVC Academics, Prof. Haruna Dlakwa, and the Registrar, Malam Zanna M. Kashim supervised the administering of matriculation oath to 2,674 students.
“In his matriculation address, Vice Chancellor, BOSU, Prof. Umar kyari Sandabe spoke on the fast rate of development that took place within these four years looking back to the commencement of academic activities during the 2019/2020 session with only 647 students in four faculties.
“The fourth matriculation he pointed out, signifies that the university now has students across all levels in various departments.
“He disclosed that, the NUC has given full accreditation to 28 programs out of the thirty presented, while two got interim accreditation in the accreditation exercise it conducted last year.
“He said, as the university prepares to graduate its pioneer students this year, all hands are on deck to ensure that BOSU produced men and women of valor that would excel in their respective field of studies and contribute positively to the growth and development of the state and the country at large. Prof. Sandabe then advised the newly matriculated students to imbibe learning and reading culture, discipline, and stride for excellence, and to avoid contaminous behaviors.
“He said that the university is a citadel of learning and therefore no any immoral and unethical behaviors will be tolerated.
“He said adequate security measures are in place to ensure safety adding also that, the university provides free shuttle bus service to the students to encourage them to study hard. Prof. Sandabe, on behalf of the university’s council, senate, management, staff, and students, appreciates the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum CON mni FNSE, whose commitment to the ideals and objectives of the university, is untiring.
“He equally appreciates the Ministries of Higher Education and that of Finance as well as Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, Staff on sabbatical and visiting and all supporting staff for their untiring support which propelled the university to its present state.
“He equally appreciates private organizations and public agency that contributed with funds and other developmental projects such as TETFund, NNCP, and NEDC amongst others,” the statement added
The administering of matriculation oath on the new students was done by the Registrar, Malam Zanna Mustapha Kashim at the event witnessed by the Chairman Governing Council of the institution, Dr Muhammadu Indimi who was represented by a council member. Prof. Abubakar Mustapha.
Other dignitaries that witnessed the ceremony include: the VC University of Maiduguri, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba represented by DVC Admin, Prof. Muh’d Laminu Mele, the CMD UMTH, Prof. Ahmed Ahijo represented by the Deputy CMAC (Research and Ethics) Prof. Faruk Baba, Permanent Secretary from Ministry of Higher Education, Dr Shettima Muhammed Maina, Representative of Ministry of Finance and Budget, District Head of Auno, Director/CEO Nigeria Arabic Village Ngala Prof. Ibrahim Muhammad and Representative of JAMB.
