Borno To Host 10th Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture

The 10th edition of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture scheduled for Saturday is to be held in Maiduguri. 

The Borno State Head of Service and Chairman of the Joint Organising Committee of the 10th lecture, Barrister Mallam Fannami, made this known at a briefing on the lecture in Maiduguri. 

Fannami said the lecture with the theme “Creating pathways for peace: Tackling banditry and insurgency through good governance for Sustainable Development” reflected the pressing need to address the challenges of insecurity facing the North. 

Fannami said that Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad Bande would be the Guest Speaker at the lecture to be graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima who is the Special Guest of honour. 

“The lecture will be graced by the presence of State Governors, members of National and State  Assemblies, Ministers, Royal Fathers, and stakeholders from across the nation.

“Their participation underscores the importance of the issues to be discussed and reaffirms the commitment of our nation’s leadership to addressing the challenges facing our dear country.

“A major highlight of this year’s Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture will be the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards to deserving personalities,” Fannami said. 

He reiterated the commitment of stakeholders in the north to continue to ensure that the lecture continues to serve as a veritable platform for constructive dialogue and meaningful engagement on issues of critical importance to the region and nation at large. 

Also speaking, the Director General of Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation who is also the Co – Chairman of the Joint Organising Committee,  Engr. Abubakar Gambo Umar, highlighted some of the achievements made by the foundation, particularly in promoting the education of less privileged children in the North. 

He noted that about 300 students sponsored by the foundation in public universities had graduated, while about 600 others are undergoing various courses.
