The Borno State Palliative Committee has supported 4,000 vulnerable people in Mairi and Maimusari wards of Jere Local Government of Borno.
Addressing the beneficiaries on Tuesday at the venue in Federal Government College, Maiduguri, the Acting Chairman of the Committee who is also the Commissioner of Sports and Youth Empowerment, Hon. Saina Buba cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the items given to them.
Buba also cautioned them against giving gratification to any official as tips for enrolling them to benefit from the gesture, adding that anyone that solicited for graft from any beneficiary should be reported to the committee for sanction.
He explained that 4,000 beneficiaries comprised of 2,000 men and 2,000 women.
“Each man who is the head of family will be given a bag of 50 kg while each woman will get N10,000 cash, five kilogram of sugar and a wrapper.
“This exercise will continue in Jere and Maiduguri Metropolitan until we cover 100,000 vulnerable families as directed by His Excellency the Governor,” Buba said.
He announced that the next pace of the exercise would be in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council in Shehuri North and Shehuri South.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, urged women beneficiaries to make proper use of the gesture from the state government to have a hitch free Ramadan and Eid El Fitr celebration.
In his remarks on behalf of Jere Local Government, the council Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Gujja Tom, lauded the development which he said would go a long in alleviating the hardship of many poor families in the society.
Maryam Ali, Lucy Haruna, Jummai Buba and Isaac Dogara who benefited from the palliative said that it was a big relief and something that should be sustain to give the poor a sense of belonging.
“My husband got a bag of rice while I got N10,000, sugar and a wrapper. This gesture will help the family throughout the Ramadan period,” Ali said.
