The Borno Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdu Umar on Friday addressed officers and men of the command on alleged pending nationwide strike action by personnel.
Addressing the personnel at the headquarters in Maiduguri, Umar said the rumour of the purported nationwide strike by police is from some unguided elements.
“Its no longer news to all of us here that rumours has been circulating that some unguided elements of the force would be embarking on an unjustifiable strike, as such, I am hereby calling on you to warn your men against such act.
“They should not in any way attempt to sabotage the efforts of the IGP. There is no room or provision for strike, protest, demonstration, and even constructive criticism in Police.
“Hence, any of such act by any member of the force would be regarded as an act of mutiny which is a security sabotage against the president of the Federal republic of Nigeria and his government,” Umar said.
Umar said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has engaged in welfare programmes including procurement of large quantity of uniforms, kits, firearms, armour vest, patrol vehicles and other critical policing equipment’s for distribution to all departments.
He said the IGP has also ordered the renovation of barracks and other dilapidated building structures of the force across the states which is a first of it’s kind for many years.
The Commissioner also explained that taxes being deducted from the inspectors rank and files has been reduced or to some extent being stopped for greater package.
“The IGP has been working tirelessly towards ensuring that the personnel of the force are removed from the compulsory contributory pension which would bring a smile to all our faces.
“Its all known to us that the president has approved and released a huge amount of money for disbursement and the police account and budget (PAB)are working assiduously to see through the computation/computerization of the new structure after which they would update and forward it to the ministry of finance/wages and salaries commission for payment.
” All these wouldn’t have been possible without the objective effort of the IGP, ” Umar said.
