Borno ACReSAL Holds Stakeholders Workshop 

Project Coordinator addressing stakeholders at the workshop in Maiduguri on Monday

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in Borno State has organised a two-day stakeholders workshop aimed at developing 10 micro catchment management plans for the state.

A statement on Monday from the Communication Officer, Timothy Butu Mwada, said the training in Maiduguri brought representatives from various ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and other stakeholders from LGAs.

Declaring the workshop open, the Project Coordinator, Mr Ayuba Peter who welcomed participants expressed gratitude for their attendance.

He stressed the significance of the catchment management plans, stating that these plans are crucial for devising strategies to effectively manage local resources.

The Coordination encouraged active participation and discussion among the attendees to achieve the program’s objectives.

He said that the initiative seeks to foster inclusive management of sustainable resources through collaboration with MDAs and other key partners under the ACReSAL project.

The catchments fall under the following Strategic Catchment namely Ngada West Chad, Yedseram East Chad, Katagum-K Gana, and Hawul-Kilunga.

The first day of the event featured a detailed presentation by Sabastine Iyobhebhe, the Team Leader from Grecel LTD, who focused on the characteristics of the various catchments.

“The presentation was followed by an interactive session where stakeholders contributed to the discussion.

“Key topics addressed included the sustainable management and protection of natural resources, as well as existing challenges and policies critical to the success of the catchment management plans.

“Overall, the workshop aimed to engage stakeholders in collaborative dialogue, fostering a shared understanding of resource challenges and paving the way for effective catchment management strategies in Borno State,” the statement added.
