Boko Haram Kills 10 Chadian Soldiers

Ten Chadian soldiers were killed and seven others wounded in Lake Chad, during a counter-terrorism operation in the region by the Army.

On Sunday, the governor of Lake Province, Major General Abadi Saïr Fadoul, told Anadolu Agency that the soldiers were part of the Multinational Joint Task Force fighting Boko Haram.

“These soldiers fell on Thursday, September 17, during an offensive by the Chadian forces of the Force Mixte Multinationale (FMM) against a Boko Haram camp in the Lake Chad area,” The Governor was quoted saying

He added, “During this offensive, the forces leading the operation, unfortunately, fell into an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists, “.

Chad is battling Boko Haram sub-faction led by one Bakura and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the country’s Lake Chad region,

On March 23, the Boko Haram sub-faction stormed a Chadian military base in Bohoma Peninsula and killed 92 soldiers. In response to the attack President Idris Deby launched Operation “Colère de Bohoma” (Wrath of Bohoma) and the Lake Chad region was declared a “war zone”.

Since early 2015, attacks in Chad by Boko Haram factions have killed hundreds, displaced thousands of people, and damaged the regional economy of the Lake Chad Basin.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Over 3.4 million people have been displaced, including over 2.7 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in north-eastern Nigeria, over 684,000 IDPs in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, and 294,000 refugees in the four countries.
