Bedmod Turf Club opens Race Course in Yola

The newly established Bedmod Turf Club in Yola has formally inaugurated its Race Course known as Dembo International Race Course.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Yola, the proprietor of the club, Dr Mahmood Halilu popularly known as Modi said the development was to revived the traditional game of horse racing in Adamawa and to use it to promote peace and unity among the diverse people of the state.

Halilu said he hope to sustain horse racing by holding the event quarterly or during festive periods for celebrants and the public to have a colourful  get together.

Also speaking, a lover of horse race, Alhaji Ibrahim Waziri, lauded  Halilu for being the first to organized such private horse race in the state and urged government to key in to boost the event.

Waziri said horse racing which has been a cultural heritage of Adamawa people needed to be enhanced for its tourism potentials.

Highlight of the commissioning of the race course at Wuro Modibbo area of Yola town was the racing competitions for Late Alhaji Halilu Ahmed Chiroma memorial cup, Mahmood Halilu Ahmed (Modi) cup, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo Cup, Dr. Mrs Aisha Buhari cup, and President Muhammadu Buhari Cup.

Trophies and cash prizes were given to winners including the First Lady, Aisha Buhari’s horse known as Next Level who won Osibanjo’s cup.
