Gov. Bala Assents to 3 Bills
Gov. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State on Wednesday assented to three new bills passed by the State Assembly, pledging to ensure effective implementation of the laws in synergy with the Judiciary.
A statement by Mukhtar Gidado, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, said the bills assented to by the governor are: establishment of Oil and Gas Institute Alkaleri, Tree planting and other Environmental and Conservation related matters and repeal on merger of Bauchi State Investment Corporation and Bauchi State Investment Promotion Agency.
“Speaking shortly after signing the laws at Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed said the bill to repeal the investment agency is to ensure compliance with policy on ease of doing business.
“On oil and gas Institute, the governor said the state government decided collectively to establish the institution in conjunction with federal government and other international bodies to provide human capital in the areas of technical skills for oil and gas exploration.
“He said the state government will work with other oil and gas agencies for the institute to produce man power that will participate fully in Mambila project for electricity,” Gidado said.
He further explained that the environmental bill is to protect citizens of the state against desertification and other environmental challenges that would affect their health.
“These bills that we are signing today is for the betterment of Nigeria and Bauchi state in particular, we thank our members of our Assembly for their synergy and foresight.”
“Mr Speaker we are proud of you, as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of Nigeria, Bauchi state will support you to succeed,” Gidado quoted the Governor as saying in the statement.
Gidado said that the governor reiterated the determination of his administration to continue to work with other arms of government in the provision of dividends of democracy to the electorates.
In his remarks at the occassion, the Speaker of Bauchi Assembly, Rt Honorable Abubakar Y Suleiman who led principal officers of the Assembly to present the bills to the governor for his assent, said the house would continue to work with the Executive to come up with the laws that would impact positively on the lives of the people of the state.
“Your Excellency, we are here today to present to you three laws that are all important for the development of our dear state,” Suleiman said.
