Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has visited 28 communities on the shores of Lake Alau in Konduga and Jere Local Government Areas to mobilize more farmers to return to farm.
Farming activities were over the years suspended in the communities due to insurgency.
According to Gov. Zulum who spoke to newsmen, the development was part of his administration commitment to ensure the return of full farming activities in the communities targeted in the first phase of his administration back to farm initiative to improve food security in the state.
The governor said that trenches had been dug around the communities to protect them against insurgents attack.
“Our intention is to resettle all the 28 communities around this place, we have built trenches from Dalori up to Molai.
“We are in consultation with the military, insha Allah all the communities will go back to their localities soon,” Zulum said.
During the visit, Zulum who personally interacted with many farmers clearing and planting seeds in their various farmlands, assured them of government support.
In another development, Gov. Zulum has been presented with medal award by the commnder 251 taskforce battalion in appreciation of his support to the Nigerian military.
