As the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) one month warning strike continues, the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) branch of the union has declared it readiness for a role-over and prolong strike action if Federal Government continue to remain adamant.
A statement by the UNIMAID branch of the association signed by Dr Abubakar Mshelia and Dr Hassan Dogo the Chairperson and Assistant Secretary respectively after a Congress meeting in Maiduguri, said government representatives should be held responsible for dragging the issue.
It said the resolved for a roll-over, total and comprehensive strike action in public universities was in response to the lukewarm attitude of government team to issues in dispute.
“Congress expressed great consternation that FGN team is only interested in dragging the issues in dispute and interested in the prolonged closure of the universities.
“Congress reaffirmed its readiness for a prolonged strike in the light of the report on the unserriouness of FGN and the falsehood being presented by the FGN to misled the public rather than addressing the FGN/ASUU impasse.
“Congress commends the national leadership of the Union for its continued efforts in the struggle to ensure better conditions of service for academics and the revitalization of public university education, university autonomy, and academic freedom in Nigeria, despite the demonstration of bad faith by representatives of FGN.
“Congress reaffirms its stance on the roll-over, total and comprehensive strike action until all issues in dispute between the union and FGN are resolved through the legal principle of collective bargaining,” the statement added.
It lauded members for attending the meeting in large number and urged for sustain commitment to such meetings.
