Adamawa State chapter of correspondents’ chapel has threatened to boycott the state government over assault on its members by security personnel.
The decision was sequel to an emergency meeting it convened Thursday after some members of the chapel were brutalized allegedly at the instance of the press secretary to the governor Humwhasi Wonosikou.
According to a statement cosigned by the chairman of the chapel, Daji Sani and the Secretary, Onimisi Also, the incident took place at the Yola international airport during the visit of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
The statement said two members of the chapel namely Phineas Padio of the Pilot newspaper and Emmanuel Njapri were manhandled and bloodied by the security agents.
“Consequently, the correspondents’ chapel resolved at an emergency Congress Thursday afternoon to boycott the media chat slated for Friday and other activities regarding the ongoing projects commissioning exercise of the Adamawa state Government,” the statement read.
“Padio Phineas of the Nigerian Pilot suffered the most in the hands of the policemen who slapped him and dragged him around. The Car of Emmanuel Samuel of the point Newspaper was damaged after the security personnel attacked him and three other members with him in the car.
” The chapel demand unreserved apology from the Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou for the unfortunate directive,” the statement further said.
