As part of activities marking this year’s Nigeria Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), the Nigerian Army has inaugurated Camp Delta Base, for soldiers of quick response force engaged in the fight against insurgency.
Inaugurating the camp on Thursday in Maiduguri, the Theatre Commander “Operation Lafiya” Maj. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, lauded the authorities of 7 Division, Maiduguri, for the development.
He said that the inauguration was critical for timely response by the division in the fight against insurgency and other criminal activities.
“Commissioning of Delta Camp today will provide a base for troops and equipments to be launched into action.
“It is therefore a project that is worthy and I urge the troops to make the best use of the edifice so that they can rest here, plan and prepare for quick reaction when the need arises.
“This is inline with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) , Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai’s purpose for us to always be proactive and deal decisively with threats in all our operations.
“Let me at this point remind us all that the COAS and headquarters of Nigeria Army remain highly committed to fight terrorism and insurgency in Borno state and North East at large,” Yahaya said.
Yahaya said that the inauguration of the camp was part of activities line up for this year’s Nigeria Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
He said that officers and men of the Operation Lafiya Dole appreciated COAS for attending to their needs.
“I therefore want to reaffirm our resolve and determination to achieve our mandate in the Theatre and aligning with the vision of COAS which is to have a professional and responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional role,” Yahaya said.
In his address, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division who is also the Commander Sector 1 of Operation Lafiya Dole, Brig. Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim, said that the camp which was set up following approval from high authorities would also solidify the Maimalari Cantonment which is the base for the headquarters of Theatre Command and 7 Division.
Ibrahim also acknowledged the support of COAS to the division which he said had placed the division on sound footing.
“I want to acknowledge the numerous support we are enjoying from the magnanimity of COAS. His intervention in manpower, equipments and other resources has placed the division on a sound footing to achieve its mission,” Ibrahim said.
Highlights of the occasion included a display by members of Delta Force and the inauguration of a recreational centre for all staff of Operation Lafiya Dole known as Combato building.
Other activities line up for NADCEL celebration in Borno include sanitation exercise, empowerment of some needy persons in host communities, and medical outreach.
