~ Vows to reposition party, return its winning streak
The former member representing Yola South constituency Ibrahim Bappa Waziri has today declared interest to contest the chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamawa State chapter, saying that if elected, he will reposition the party and return it to its winning streak.
Waziri who made the position in Yola, noted that over the years the aspirations of the founding fathers of the party have been thrown overboard as a result of lack of respect for rules and regulations.
He noted that because of the impunity hoisted on the party by its leadership it lost the state government, two senators, four house of representative members and thirteen house of assembly members and even the presidential election in 2019 polls.
“The first problem we had was lack of internal democracy the congresses of 2018 was against the provisions of the party constitution as the majority of the registered members were sidelined and disenfranchised and the leadership that emerged did nothing to correct it by not reconciling the aggrieved members.
“The 2019 primaries was nothing more than a waste of time, resources and energy by both the party and the aspirants as in some places automatic tickets were given without consulting or carrying other aspirants in the decision and where the primaries were held it wasn’t free no fear and before that the party leadership has taken sides with some of the aspirants against the interest of the party’s constitution which provides for neutrality of the leadership.
“In some cases, some of the aspirants were not genuinely registered members of the party and again the party leadership failed to reach out to the aggrieved members who were left with no option but litigation and we lost a valuable seat of a federal constituency and many more reasons,” he said.
He noted that if elected, he will treat all members of the party equally, fairly and create an enabling environment where all members will have a sense of belonging.
“I will give the members a sense of belonging by engaging them in all party activities. I will also facilitate training and retraining of the party leadership on the responsibilities of their offices and themselves as leaders and role models of the party.
“I will maintain neutrality in every party activity like the congresses or primaries and create a stable source of funding for the party through the constitution and other means,” he said.
While lamenting the woeful failure of the party to have office accommodation, Waziri said if given the opportunity, he would ensure that the party gets a befitting Secretariat in the state noting that it is shameful for a party of APC’s standing to exist without an address.
“I will erect a permanent structure for the party in terms of office accommodation at least a state secretariat and accommodation for some of the leaders,” he added.
While pledging to wrest power from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) if elected, Waziri promised to create a shadow government that will challenge all anti peoples policies of governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s led government.
“I will create a shadow Government that can challenge all anti people policies of the state Government and expose corruption and weaknesses for constructive criticism.
“This list of things to do is endless and we have to be ambitious to win the race and I’m confident if given the opportunity of becoming the party chairman i will do all this within my first 2 years in the office in sha ALLAH.
” So I’m calling on all of you on this platform who are delegates to vote for me and those that are not delegates to reach out to the delegates and convince them to vote for Hon Ibrahim Abubakar Waziri (Bappa Waziri) as the state party Chairman so that we rescue the party together as my slogan is APC Adamawa rescue mission,” he said.
