The Executive Chairman, Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), Isa Shattima, has assured commission’s readiness to conduct a free, fair and credible councils elections.
Shattima gave the assurance at a stakeholders meeting on election violence mitigation, organized by USAID/IRI on Thursday in Yola.
Shettima who was represented by Mr M.D Joshua, commission’s Commissioner for Research and Planning, said ADSIEC was fully prepared for the December 7 election and urged politicians to play by the rules.
He said the commission had cleared 51 chairmanship candidates for the election, and cautioned all candidates not to engage in smear campaigns.
Earlier in a keynote address, Ms. Angee Wambugu, Resident Program Director, said the institute has been supporting Nigeria’s democracy since 1998.
Wambugu said the intitute would continue to partner with political parties in strengthening their internal democratic structures and increasing the participation of women, youth and PLWD in politics.
She said that IRI Programme funded by USAID covers Adamawa, Bauchi, Ebonyi and Sokoto States.
Participants at the stakeholders meeting were drawn from security agencies, CAN, CSO, political parties, Muslim Council, and traditional insinuations the state.
