‎Adamawa SDP guber candidate, hails INEC over recognition of Gombe as nat’l chair

‎Adamawa State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Christopher Nathaniel, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for reinstating Prof. Umar Abubakar Gombe as the National Chairman of the party.
‎
‎Nathaniel described INEC’s decision to upload Gombe’s name on its official portal as a significant step to restore stability within the SDP and strengths the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
‎
‎According to him, the commission’s action was in compliance with judicial pronouncements affirming the autonomy of political parties, particularly the Supreme Court judgment directing the implementation of a Court of Appeal ruling that removed the name of the party’s former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, from INEC records.
‎
‎INEC had on Wednesday effected the removal of Gabam and other expelled party members from its portal, effectively bringing an end to the protracted leadership tussle that had generated controversy within the party.
‎
‎Reacting to the development, Nathaniel said the resolution of what he described as an externally induced leadership crisis had placed the SDP on a stronger footing and positioned it for future electoral contests.

‎He expressed confidence that the party would emerge as a formidable force in the country’s political landscape, particularly with its presidential standard-bearer, Prince Adewole Adebayo, whom he said possesses the competence and vision required to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges.
‎
‎”The SDP is now firmly positioned for the 2027 general elections. With the leadership issue resolved, the party can focus fully on mobilising support and expanding its reach across the country,” he stated.
‎
‎The Adamawa SDP governorship candidate congratulated Prof. Gombe, party stakeholders and members nationwide on what he described as a victory for internal democracy and adherence to the rule of law.
‎
‎Nathaniel further expressed optimism that the party would build on the momentum generated by the development to strengthen its structures and secure electoral victories at various levels, including in Adamawa State.
‎
‎He maintained that the SDP remains committed to give Nigerians a credible alternative platform capable of delivering effective leadership and good governance.
