The political squabble rocking the legislative arm of Michika local government Area in Adamawa state has worsened as the councillors not loyal to a close Associate to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, one Steven Maduwa were beaten to a stupor at a meeting in Yola.
Speaking to journalists on the fracas,Leader of the legislative council Michika,Hon.Bitrus Pagwe said Steven Maduwa sent a message to the councillors that Governor Fintiri will be holding a stakeholders meeting for Michika PDP members in Yola .A reason that informed their journey to the state capital on Saturday.
Pagwe stated that on arrival, they were directed to move to Homtel hotel along Army Barracks road Yola where few stakeholders in attendance then Steven Maduwa announced that the rationale behind the meeting was to effect legislative leadership change of the council.
Shocked by the bizarre directive said to have emanated from the governor, leader of the Councilors,He (Pagwe) protested insisting that the legislative council had its election in 2020 “Sir this matter is a democratic affair.
“Because we were duly elected, how would the governor, who was a legislator himself, give such an order?
“In the first instance we were told that the Governor directed that we should come to Yola for stakeholders meeting only to found out that Steven Maduwa and his co-travellers staged managed the meeting for their selfish political interests.
“We were physically attacked and beaten up by these thugs after coming out of the meeting where Abdu slanty, driver to Maduwa smashed my face injuring my eyes “.Pagwe alleged.
Angered by Pagwe’s audacity to question the governor’s directive, Maduwa beckoned on a ready army of thugs led by his driver by name Abdul Bodes (A.KA. Slangy) who pounced on some the Councillors perceived not loyal to him.
Some of the major stakeholders, like the former House of Representatives member, Adamu Kamale, present member of the state Assembly from Michika, Ayuba Kwada and others scampered out of the hall on sensing that the meeting was skewed to forced the Leadership of the Councilors to resign.
Confirming the incident, Peoples Democratic Party chairman in Michika, Ezekiel Kwaji, admitted that “there was a move to force a change in the leadership of the councilors.
“Which led to a scuffle, but I cannot confirm that anyone ordered the fight.”
When contacted however, Maduwa angrily told our Correspondent “go and write whatever you want.”
Both the governor and Maduwa have a history of bullying. recall in a recent leaked audio, Governor Fintiri was heard threatening to deal with one Husseini Gambo Nakura
On his part Maduwa had a year ago threatened to assassinate a Journalist for publishing what he (Maduwa) termed unpalatable story against Fintiri.
