The Speaker of Adamawa House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas has urged Adamawa State Government on the need to rename the Uba Central Primary School after his late father, Iya Abbas for his contributions to education and good governance.
The speaker made the call in Uba town of Hong Local Government at a ceremony to launch Iya Abbas Memorial Foundation.
Aminu said such gesture would immortalized late Iya Abbas who was the first Head Boy of the school and a well known personality for his uprightness and selfless service to humanity.
Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa, Chief Crowther Seth, who extol the exemplary character of late Iya Abbas, lauded the setting up of the foundation to assist the less privileged in the society in his memory.
Seth said that the gesture was inline with the empowerment programmes of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri administration that was committed to touching the lives of masses in the state in positive ways.
Other dignitaries who spoke and eulogized the late Iya Abbas at the occasion include the Galadima of Adamawa, Alhaji Mustafa Aminu, former EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu and former Education Commissioner, Julde Gurumpawo.
Others are Abdulrahman Moddibo Girei, Ayuba Tumba, Bubakari Kamale, Buba Uba and Usman Iya Abbas.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of N20,000 each to 40 widows.
The Iya Abbas Memorial Foundation is a humanitarian organization set up to among others empower widows and youths as well as provide portable water, healthcare and feeding for the needy ones in the society.
