Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), under the aegis of Good Governance Group (3G), has in its move to ensure transparency in the procurement processes of the state government, demanded its inclusion into the BPP board.
The group presented the demand before the Director General of the bureau, Mr. Abba Bello Umar during an advocacy visit to the organization yesterday.
Spokesman of the group Martins Fidelis Vandu who said the group was convened purporsely to promote good governance in Adamawa State, specifically told the DG the group’s readiness to establish partnership with the bureau to ensure transparency in procurement processes in the state in line with best practices.
In his response, the DG Abba Umar Bello, a renowned procurement expert who was visibly happy with the advocacy visit, thanked the group for their bold effort at ensuring sanity in the state procurement processes urging them to be sincere in in their dealings.
Bello told the group to participate in the bidding processes as observers which starts with the budget of the various MDA’s.
He also urged the group to register with the bureau for partnership.
While responding to the request for representation of the CSOs on the board, the DG noted that the issue was a bit contradictory as it will be a misnomer for the CSO to be a member of the board at the same time observing the bidding process adding that he will look into the BPP act and statutes for answers.
The advocacy visit and the formation of the Good Governance Group were the fallout of ROLAC/British Council’s post procurement training action plans for non state actors adopted on July 5, 2019 during a workshop organized by RoLAC at AUN Hotel Yola.
