Many residents of Yola, Adamawa State capital and its environ on Wednesday trooped out to Rochas Foundation College, Yola, to join the staff and students in celebrating the 57th birthday of the Founder, Sen. Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha.
In his welcome address at the special occasion, the Principal of the College, Abubakar Musa, said Okorocha through the foundation which is a humanitarian organization providing education to the poor across Nigeria had impacted on the lives of many Nigerian families in Yola, Bauchi, Jos, Ibadan, Sokoto, Zaria, Kano, Enugu, Owerri and Ogboko.
“Daddy Rochas is truly a Nigerian, he belongs to everybody. He is a detribalized Nigerian, who does not ask you where you come from or your religion or tribe before helping you,” the principal said.
He noted that the college in Yola was established in 2017 with 193 students, adding that at present the school which has only JSS 1 to 3 have 401 students.
Musa said that the college has the capacity to accommodate up to 1000 students.
The principal explained that most of the students in the college were orphans and from poor families.
“Our education is comprehensively free which include free admission form, free books, free school bags, free biro, free JAMB and free WAEC registration, no payment of school fees and PTA levies, free uniform and many more,” the principal said.
The principal who expressed the appreciation of staff and students of the college for providing them with job and free qualitative education, prayed for more years for the founder for him to continue the service to humanity in Nigeria and Africa in general.
Several people who spoke at the occasion including the representative of the District Head of Jimeta, Alhaji Inuwa Baba-Paris and that of the Chairmen of Girei and Yola South LGAs, lauded Rochas for his philanthropic activities nationwide, particularly in the vital area of education.
They speakers who eulogized Rochas for his detribalized actions urged other Nigerians, particularly leaders to emulate him for the much needed unity in Nigeria.
Rochas is the immediate past governor of Imo State.
