Adamawa ADC Youth, Demand Greater Inclusion in Party Leadership

‎The Coalition of All ADC Youth and Women Organizations in Adamawa State has called for greater inclusion of young people and women in the leadership and decision-making structures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that their participation should be treated as a right rather than a privilege.

‎The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of the coalition held in Yola on Saturday, October 4, 2025, and presented by its chairman, Hon. Mohammed All Scams.

‎Highlighting that young people account for about 70% of Nigeria’s population while women make up 62%, the coalition stressed that the two groups remain the backbone of the country’s democratic processes and deserve proportional representation in political party structures.

‎ADC as a political party should harness the raw potential embodied in young people and women by reserving at least 50% of elective positions within the party’s structures for them. This is key to fostering inclusion and democratic accountability,” the communiqué read.

‎The coalition also condemned what it described as the “imposition of non-youths in youth positions,” citing the example of another political party in the state which, it claimed, appointed a 50-year-old man as youth leader.

‎The position of youth leader should be specifically reserved for individuals aged 18 to 39, in line with Nigeria’s demographic realities. Anything short of that undermines the spirit of youth representation,” it added.

‎On the micro-zoning of party offices, the coalition urged ADC stakeholders to respect zonal arrangements when selecting leaders. It specifically recommended Hon. Abdurrasheed Adamy Suleiman Khady for consideration as the state youth leader, should the position be zoned to Adamawa Central.

‎Reaffirming its loyalty to the ADC at both national and zonal levels, the coalition pledged to abide by the directives of the party’s leadership while working to strengthen its position as a leading opposition party in Nigeria.

‎The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to promote inclusivity and democratic accountability within the ADC.
