Professor Habib Umar Danmalam, of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, ABU Zaria said that instead of developing our local content research, ‘’Africans neglects own herbs and research, instead, we solemnly relied on the white men euphoria as if they are better than us.
Danmalam a professor of Pharmacognosy confided that he and other colleagues are making effort to bring out an herbal alternative to mitigating some diseases associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
‘’We are making our efforts to produce herbal seeds and plants that can improve the condition of the lungs and remove the mucous which blocks the chambers in COVID-19,’’ said he.
The university don was emphatic that, some diseases, plants can cure include dry cough, respiratory failures, and fever, among others.
He added that plant-based drugs are supposedly the best approach for the Coronavirus disease considering that these drugs are easily produced, stored, and distributed and can be handled by medical and non-medical personnel as they pose a low risk of contamination.
For now, despite the insistence of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that no vitamins, minerals, herbs, nutrients or other natural medicines have been shown in human clinical trials to prevent or treat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), more cure claims will continue to emerge from all over the world.
