No fewer than 49 insurgents were killed with many weapons recovered by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in various encounters within the past six weeks.
The Acting Theatre Intelligence Coordinator of Operation Hadin Kai, Col. Obinna Azuikpo made this known while briefing newsmen at a briefing organised by the Theatre Commander North East Operation Hadin Kai, Maj. Gen Christopher Musa.
Azuikpo said nine soldier and two members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) paid the supreme prize within the period under review.
Azuikpo said that a total of 3,349 patrols were conducted by the three sectors of the Theatre alongside 1,197 ambushes that also led to arrest of 107 collaborators and logistics suppliers.
Azuikpo also said that 99 persons comprising 47 women and 52 children in captivity were rescued. Two Chibok girls were also rescued within the period under review.
He explained that the military has sustained offensive and would continue to strangulate the logistics supply of the insurgents.
According to the intelligence officer, the mass surrendering of insurgents has continue despite attempt by some commanders of the terrorist groups to frustrate it by forming a task force to stop it
He said that so far a total of 81,131 insurgents including thier families have surrendered, while a new facility had been secured in Gongulong village to accommodate the growing number of those surrendering.
