2 Taraba Abducted Staff of Population Commission, NPC, Regain Freedom

Five days after their abduction by suspected kidnappers two abducted staffers of the Taraba state National Population Commission (NPC) finally reigned freedom security and family sources have said.

Confirming their release, the Federal Commissioner of the commission for Taraba,  Sani Sule Sale, while speaking to journalists in Jalingo said two demacators of the National Population Commission (NPC) were kidnapped five days ago in Dan-Anacha, in Gassol LGA as part of a team working under NPC’s routine enumeration area demarcation (EAD) exercise in preparation for the national census.

‘’ All praise and glory be to God, they were released Tuesday night January 14th, 2020, in fact, the period of the captivity was a harrowing time for them and their immediate families and the entire NPC,’’ said he.

He added that the moment the NPC was informed about their abduction last week Friday through a telephone call to his office by the abductor, they swung into action and contacted relevant authorities.

He stated that the security agencies in the state were effectively mobilized to ensure their timely release.

He said the NPC went into an intensive negotiation with the kidnappers for their safety and prompt release.

It was, on the whole, a very long, tedious and stressful process, sometimes promising and at the other time, very frustrating indeed.

“Even after an agreement was reached for the two kidnapped victims to be released Monday, the kidnappers reneged at the minute, necessitating further discussion,” he said.

Like other parts of Nigeria, Taraba state had in the recent time witnessed incessant cases of kidnappings forcing residents to desert their houses for fear of uncertainty.
