A 60-year-old patient Malam Halilu Aliyu who carried hernia for 10 years has heave a sigh of relief after the budding growth was removed during the second leg of medical outreach organized by the senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial zone, Sen. Binos Dauda Yeroe.
In a chat with our correspondent, Aliyu said he lost hope of getting the abnormal growth removed noting that over the years he has moved from pillar to post to get rid of the huge abnormal growth without success.
“I have carried the baggage for 10 years and have run from pillar to post to get the abnormal growth removed without success.
” In the process, I nearly lost my life after an unsuccessful operation carried out by a woman.
“In fact, I have lost every hope of getting the ailment removed from my body. Initially, I was not keen of coming here after several unsuccessful attempt to get rid of the blight.
” I was encouraged by some good neighbours to come and access the free medical services being offered by the Senator and I will say I’m glad I heeded to their wise counsel.
“The operation was successfully carried out and I’m now recuperating and on drugs.
” Words cannot express how indebted I’m to the senator for this unique measure. May God bless him and his family abundantly,” Aliyu said.
Another benefactor, Mrs Robinson Augustine who has grappled with miscarriage on three previous occasions thanked the Senator for the gesture.
“I had three miscarriages previously and I was afraid that I may also lose this one which is the fourth attempt.
” Luckily for me, my labour coincided with the free medical outreach which made me the first patient to be attended to free of charge.
“I had a successful operation and I’m now a proud mother of a miracle baby. I’m grateful to the senator for the kind gesture
“Thousands of people came for the outreach, many of us are farmers in this chiefdom and can’t afford to treat their illness but because of this intervention we were able to see doctors and even get drugs” she said.
Another beneficiary, Hureira Yuguda also thanked the Senator for the intervention noting that after the surgery, her four year stomach ailment has been treated.
” I had this nagging and painful stomach ailment which I had contended with in the last four years.
“I’m happy that the ailment has now gone after the treatment. I must thank the senator for the olive branch extended to us,” she said.
Speaking at the end of the 4 day exercise, Senator Yeroe said he deemed it necessary to organize such intervention following constant demands by individual members of his constituency to provide medical care for them.
He noted that in view of the frequency with which such demands came, he felt that the best way to approach the issue was to provide free medical outreach to all members of his constituency, noting that during the first intervention in Demsa 8,030 people benefitted from the gesture.
He noted that the gesture was the best way to empower his constituents noting that without good health, no human endeavor can be achieved, adding that it was easier and reasonable for him to provide adequate free health care service than to provide cash for the teeming populace.
In his remarks, Dr Jama Medan a member of the medical team said, 50 medical personnel participated in the medical outreach adding that the exercise was a huge success; as they attended to various illness like Optic, Dental as well as other major surgeries.
He noted that their target was to provide medical services to 5,000 patients noting however that they have overshoot the target because of the unprecedented turnout.
“Initially our target was 5,000 but we have attended to more than 5,000 patients now.
” We have done 105 cataract extraction. We have given 400 glasses and have attended to over 500 in the eye clinic.
“In the dental department, we have treated 160 cases of tooth extraction, polishing and others.
” We have also carried out 104 surgeries including surgical hernia, fibroid, typhoid perforations and ultrasound while we refer to more complex cases to FMC Yola,” he said.
